Dual-Zone Design principles: Ground floor for the elderly — SPC anti-slip flooring, grab bars, mmWave sensors, 24-hour motion-activated lighting, 90cm-wide doorways for wheelchair access, and a dehumidifier targeting 48-52% RH to reduce joint pain. Upper floor for working adults and children — softer synthetic wood flooring for children, rounded-edge furniture, 50-55% RH humidity, and brighter lighting for studying.
Dual-Zone Humidity Control: Home Assistant uses individual Aqara sensors per room with distinct automation rules per zone. Ground floor (elderly): dehumidifier activates when RH exceeds 55%, shuts off below 48%. Upper floor (children): activates above 60%, shuts off below 50% — as children tolerate higher humidity and should not have air that is too dry.
Family Command Center: Lovelace dashboard divided by user tab — Elderly Tab (20pt font size, 4 large buttons: lights, AC, lock, SOS); Parent Tab (all sensor readings and full home control); Child Tab (only their own room light — locked out of security systems). This is implemented through HA’s per-user entity permission system.
Age-specific safety layers: Elderly — mmWave fall detection, SOS button, medication reminder; Young children — door/window sensors alerting when the front door opens; Older children — AI camera detecting their arrival home and sending a LINE message to parents. All systems run within the same Home Assistant instance but route alerts to relevant family members.
