IoT systems without Firmware Updates develop security vulnerabilities and declining efficiency over time. Strategy: specify devices from manufacturers with Long-Term Support (LTS) policies of at least 5–7 years. Use open Home Automation Platforms (Home Assistant, openHAB) maintained by community contributors even after manufacturer support ends.

BESS batteries have a lifespan of 3,000–6,000 cycles or 8–15 years.
